Two days ago I got this tweet from Dennis Flemion of The Frogs. It was his last tweet. Dennis disappeared while boating with his family on Saturday. Divers have not been able to find his body. I am beyond devastated.
I haven’t seen Dennis or Jimmy for many years, but god did I love The Frogs. I don’t even remember how we met. One day they just showed up and there was an instant kinship.
We were hanging out one day in 1997 and The Frogs were booked to do an interview with MTV News about their new EP, “Star Job.” This was about a year after SQUiRT TV had ended. I did not work for MTV anymore. At the insistence of Dennis and Jimmy, I accompanied them to the MTV studios where they proceeded to DEMAND that I do the interview. They refused to talk with MTV under any other circumstances.
MTV said no. Jimmy exploded, “Okay, then fuck you, we’re out of here!” Dennis agreed. Bewildered, I shrugged my shoulders and we all left the MTV studio. There was no interview.
They didn’t give a fuck.
I saw the first Austin Powers movie with The Frogs. It was the middle of the afternoon on the Upper East Side. How we all ended up together on the Upper East Side, I have no idea.That’s just the kind of thing that would happen in the 90’s while hanging out with The Frogs. We laughed our heads off at the movie.
One time The Frogs played Coney Island High and for some reason Sebastian Bach sang with them because OF COURSE HE DID. I think Dennis may have taken this photo:

I didn’t remember this, but Andy Richter and Sarah Thyre were there too! Andy talked about it on Conan the next day.
The Frogs gave me a VHS tape called “Toy Porno” which they made as a gift for Kurt Cobain in 1993. It remains one of the best things ever made, ever.
I can’t believe Dennis is gone. I’m listening to their new music now and it’s as brilliant as ever.
RIP Dennis Flemion.
