As shitty as the news of the latest earthquake in Christchurch is, I still think it’s hilarious that my coworker Sam has been on holiday in Christchurch during both of the last two earthquakes.
He would have flown back to Auckland yesterday, but was delayed by volcanic ash from the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle eruption.

Noone died. There was one unconfirmed report of looting. 89 buildings (in a city of 375,000) were declared unsafe or destroyed. And yet our largest daily paper decides to declare that this is the end of the world.
