Maybe we’re seeing the difference between a ‘news’ website vs a website for an actual hard copy newspaper.. The rubbish stuff has on their homepage almost undermines them as a news source (everyone remembers the barking missionary). They obviously believe they have to focus on the trivial for page hits.
