If you’ve already played KOTOR and enjoyed it, then a big, big Y. If you haven’t, buy that and play it (it’s about $5-10 now and runs on any computer.) It’ll introduce you to the setting (which is a bit different to the movies) and you’ll also get a sense of how BioWare interprets the gameplay.
SWTOR is really just multiplayer KOTOR, so if you don’t like it, you’ve only lost ten bucks rather than $50.
